A Manager is a person responsible for controlling or administering an organisation or group of staff. A manager either joins a company at a managerial level or may go up the ladder according to hierarchy to a managerial position. This calls for skills and talent based on the nature of the job. The senior management observes the quality of work, the resourcefulness, the thought process, the capability to handle a tough situation, relationship with the team mates, discipline, dress code and grooming, business development aptitude, attitude, before considering a promotion.
The manager may join the company based on certain technical skills related to his career and organization. However the skills to deal with others may not necessarily be inherent but these can be developed on the job.
Soft skills like decision making, communication, problem solving , planning and delegation are vital for a role of a manager.
A manager needs to have the capability for time management which is exposed during work and through prioritizing. This is not a skill that can be written in the resume but needs to be exercised.
